HTTPS and Web Security - The State of the Web
In this episode of Google Chrome Developers show the host interviews a product manager at Chrome Security team who gives a light introduction to HTTPS and its adoption on the net. Here is my note from the show.
HTTPS and web security
HTTPS is just an HTTP over a secure connection which gives us identity, encryption, and integrity. It makes sure we are visiting the site we aimed to, no one is watching what we are doing etc. This is important because our behavior online is more than we think it demonstrates.
Some to the misunderstanding around HTTPS arise from its history of being very expensive, slow and confusing. Now it has become a lot cheaper and so much simpler to set it up. As a result, there has been a rise in the adoption of HTTPS in the web, which you can check out at the chrome transparency report.
